Your family is probably the most important people in your life. Families consist of parents and children. But we can also say that a family is a group of people consisting of a parent and children and their close relations. I think that it is better to have a big family because your relations always help and support you.

I have a big family. I haven't got brothers and sisters but I have grandparents, cousins, aunts, uncles and over relations. To my mind the ideal family is then people have much in common, then they love each over, spend much time together, support and help each over. This family should be friendly.

My parents and I spend much time together. At weekends we watch TV, ski, swim in the swimming pool, travel and play different games like football and volleyball. Also, we spend holidays together. That's all for now.

Nowadays when our independent state is developing, much attention is paid to our youth. The desire of our young people to become qualified specialists in future motivates them to enter higher educational establishments. For young people higher education is the method of developing their talents and abilities, their creative potential. That is why beside their studies they are also engaged in different clubs and organizations. Almost every school or institute has its own team of “joyful and smart” (KVN). This game is rather popular among our young people and it helps them to bring out their brightest talents and to create team spirit. Young people learn to work together, to share the moments of luck and failure.
Besides studies young people are also engaged in scientific and research work. One may say that nowadays this sphere is not paid too much attention to. This is true, but still there exist “Young Scientists’ Councils”, where young people can discuss or present their scientific investigations.
There also exists the  branch of youth organization Greenpeace in our country. Young people learn to love their land and the world that surrounds them. This organization protests against environmental pollution, against extermination of all animals, not only rare species.
Some young people work in their church organizations: they help elderly people, reconstruct our historical monuments and monasteries. This work brings them closer to our history, teaches them to love their country and respect its past.
A lot of young people go in for sports, that is why schools and institutes have sport clubs and teams. Our young people are especially interested in football, basketball, hockey, etc. There also exists a great variety of different clubs in this country. They are: theatre clubs, where young people stage different literary works; clubs “What? Where? When?”, where they can enlarge their knowledge in differentfields of science and life, and so on.
Future belongs to the young, that is why the political life of this country is important to them. Many young people are engaged in political parties and organizations such as: “the greens”, the Union of Youth.

The ancient Egyptians believed in several gods and goddesses. The most important god was the sun god Re (or Ra). People prayed to him for good harvests. The most famous goddess was Isis, who was seen as the ideal mother and wife. Her husband Osiris was the ruler of the dead.

Most Egyptians prayed at home. The gods and goddesses lived in great temples. One of the most famous is in Karnak. It consists of over 130 columns that are 25 meters high.

The Egyptians believed in life after death. They preserved people in mummies, so that their bodies would not decay. These mummies were then put into tombs or graves. Clothing, food and other items of their daily life were also put into the grave because the dead person might need them in their afterlife. Pictures of daily life were painted on the walls of such graves.

Easter is the most important holiday of the year. Easter egg is called pysanka. Pysanka shells have been found in archaeological sites from more than 3000 years ago, and many of those designs are still being used on pysanka today.Preparation for Easter starts seven weeks ahead of time with the advent of Lent. Believers don’t eat meat and animal products. Palm Sunday, the week before Easter, is known  as Willow Sunday. People bring home willow branches which have been blessed in church.

The week is dedicated to preparing for Easter. The Thursday before Easter is called Clean Thursday. According to the tradition one should bathe before sunrise on this day. The house must be clean too.

Good Friday is the day that the women of the family bake “paska”,  Easter bread. On Saturday children dye Easter eggs to add to the Easter basket which will be blessed in church. It also includes pysanka, salt, paska, sausage and ham. In the evening people go to church for the Easter mass, which lasts all night. Easter Sunday is a day of singing songs and eating. Young girls dance and sing about nature and spring. People exchange pysanky.

The Ant and the Grasshopper

One summer’s day a Grasshopper was hopping about in the field, singing and chirping to its heart’s content. An Ant passed by, carrying with great effort an ear of corn he was taking to his home.

«Why not come and have a chat with me,» the Grasshopper said, «instead of fussing all day long?». «I am busy saving up food for the winter,» the Ant said, «and that would be better for you to do the same.» «Why bother about cold?» the Grasshopper answered; «we have got a lot of food at present.»

But the Ant went on its supply. When the winter came the Grasshopper got very cold and hungry while it kept watching the ants replete with corn and grain from the stores they had collected and saved in the summer.

Then the Grasshopper understood…
